Als grundlegende Institution der menschlichen Gesellschaft ist das Recht ein sehr einflussreicher Faktor für individuelles und gesellschaftliches Handeln. Doch sein normativer Status ist umstritten, vor allem in pluralistischen, säkularisierten Gesellschaften. Ist Recht im Wesentlichen das Ergebnis einer Gesetzgebung und juristischen Interpretation oder kann und sollte es ethische Werte und Imperative reflektieren? Wenn ja, woraus speisen sich diese Imperative und wie erreichen sie das notwendige Maß an gesellschaftlichem Konsens in religiös heterogenen Gesellschaften, die als Folge von Kultur, Handel, Kommunikation und Einwanderung zunehmend globalisiert sind? Der Band trägt zur Beantwortung dieser Fragen bei.
